Official close to attorney firings quits

Elston was accused of threatening at least four of the eight fired U.S. attorneys to keep quiet about their ousters. In a statement Friday, the Justice Department said Elston was leaving voluntarily to take a job with an unnamed Washington-area law firm.

Buchanan to testify in attorney scandal

Ms. Buchanan's name entered the controversy over the U.S. attorney firings in April, when D. Kyle Sampson, former chief of staff for U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, said she was among people who were consulted about which prosecutors should be asked to resign.
