Snow has returned after 5 weeks off for a chemo cocktail to combat his recurrent cancer. That's fine. Glad to hear he feels well enough to come back to work. He always said he loved that job. In the book, O’Neill says that the president did not make decisions in a methodical way: there was no free-flow of ideas or open debate.

Mein Wolfie

"The president has confidence in Paul Wolfowitz and his work"-Dana Perino, lying mouthpiece.

US President George W Bush has
"full confidence" in embattled World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino says.

World Bank:"the biggest crisis in its history."

First of all, Wolfowitz has a girlfriend? Apparently, and he showed her favoritism
Among other things, the April 3 memo alleges that Shaha Riza, Wolfowitz's romantic interest was given a "promotion [that] clearly does not conform" to bank procedures. Moreover, the memo alleges, she was then given a raise "more than double the amount allowed" by the bank's rules.

Where the Money Is
Who's responsible for these whopping raises.

"All arrangements concerning Shaha Riza were made at the direction of the bank's board of directors," Wolfowitz spokesman Kevin Kellems.

The Next Crusade
Two years have passed since President Bush nominated Wolfowitz, the former Deputy Secretary of Defense and one of the architects of the war in Iraq, to head the sprawling multinational lending institution that has as its official goal “a world without poverty.”
...
Most bank staff opposed Wolfowitz’s presidency. An observer says that there’s a perception that “his real agenda remains hidden.”

The World Bank is staffed by a well-paid, highly educated secretariat, the vast majority of whom are non-Americans. According to a survey conducted in April, 2005, nearly ninety per cent of the staff opposed Wolfowitz’s nomination.
...
“Karl Rove would be proud: the man whom the world associates with the war in Iraq has recast himself as the crusader for good governance and development,” Manish Bapna, the executive director of the Bank Information Center, a not-for-profit organization in Washington that monitors the bank’s activities, said. “But inside the bank there is still a perception on the part of some staffers that his real agenda remains hidden, and that it reflects priorities from the Bush Administration.”

EU lawmakers call for Wolfowitz to step down

Darn it, Wolfowitz!
As president of the World Bank, Paul Wolfowitz is clearly not short of a buck or two. So is he just too time-poor to get down to his local mall and invest in a new pair of socks? Known for his sharp suits and hawkish views, he was snapped revealing his inner slob during a visit to the Selimiye mosque in Edirne, western Turkey. The images offered proof - if it were ever needed - that even the big toenails of the world's debatably great and good are best kept under wraps.

Purple Heart

Bush was given a Purple Heart. As a present.
WASHINGTON – Bill and Georgia Thomas reported they were elated Monday when they met in the Oval Office with President George W. Bush to present him with a Purple Heart.

"We were just absolutely bowled over. Without reservation, it was one of the highlights of our life. He was such a gracious host," Thomas said. "It was just an incredible, incredible experience."

The couple was able to meet with President Bush for about 20 minutes to present him with one of three Purple Hearts that Bill Thomas received during his service in Vietnam.

What kind of brainwashing does that take? To think Bush deserves a Purple Heart is to have bought the whole package of lies; hook, line and sinker.

Perino: Snotty Little Liar

MS. PERINO: I think that there's no doubt that there was a period of unease at the Justice Department, and I think that the Attorney General tried to address that. I think he met with over 70 U.S. attorneys offices as he traveled around the country, and they gathered and they met over the course of two or three weeks. That was essential work to be done, because I think that there needed to be open lines of communication between main Justice and the U.S. attorneys' offices.

I think that now that the hearing is behind us and the Attorney General answered their questions and we have all of the documents turned over, I think that -- hopefully things are calming down. I think if you are on the press release distribution list from Department of Justice, you will see that they are not stopping at all, in terms of succeeding in their prosecutions.

Guess what, Dana? This isn't about what YOU think.
It's about the Attorney General LYING.
Crooks and Liars "I don't Recall" Gonzales.
When told by reporters that Gonzales had replied "I don't recall" 55 times in his first round of questioning, ranking committee Republican Sen. Arlen Specter quipped, "That's an improvement, I'd say."
It was 74 times

Press Briefing by the latest WH lying mouthpiece, Dana Perino.

Dana Perino is a nasty piece of work.
She learned well at Rove's knee.
So much for civility.
Moonie Times A recent exchange with Helen Thomas, who has covered every presidency since she followed the Kennedy campaign to Washington. When Miss Thomas, 86, kept firing questions at Mrs. Perino, 34, the presidential spokeswoman cut her off.
"Do you want me to answer the question, Helen, or do you want to ask questions? It's really hard to concentrate here. What's your question?" Mrs. Perino demanded.
Miss Thomas replied, "You repeat yourself so much that. ..."
"So do you," Mrs. Perino interrupted, then immediately called on another reporter.

It's interesting to note the Moonie Times refers to Dana as "Mrs. Perino" when her married name is McMahon. And of course, Miss Thomas.
She looks better with less makeup. Hehe.
The right refers to her as "hot" but she's more "cute" and snide.

How such huge lies can come out of such a tiny liar is a mystery.
Blame Iraq! It's their own fault we won't leave!

Dana thinks we should pat Fredo and Kyle on the back for not making up answers? Is she insane? A paid liar? An ideologue? Can she hear herself speaking? Did SHE see any of the hearings? She did say that they were "traveling" at the time. Is it possible she hasn't seen the whole thing?

Q Between them, the Attorney General and Kyle Sampson said, "I don't recall" over 200 times. Is there concern that at the top of the Justice Department, there's seems to be a massive lack of memory?

MS. PERINO: Victoria, I think that that is an outrageous comment. The Attorney General and Kyle Sampson are two of the most honorable people I know. And they were asked multiple questions in various different ways on the same topics in which they did not have full memory. Now what would have been dishonorable is if they had made it up. And they didn't. They were honest.

Q What's the status of whether Karl Rove and other White House aides -- when you talk about cooperating with Congress, what's the status of Karl Rove and other White House aides --

MS. PERINO: You know, I think the ball is still in the Democrats' court; they haven't decided whether or not to take us up on our offer.

She quickly changed the subject.

Going, Going, Gone-zales

Gonzales v. Gonzales.
Mr. Gonzales came across as a dull-witted apparatchik incapable of running one of the most important departments in the executive branch.
...
We don’t yet know whether Mr. Gonzales is merely so incompetent that he should be fired immediately, or whether he is covering something up.

White House Watch
"Q So is it fair to say that no matter what the testimony, no matter what the back-and-forth, that the President plans to stick with Attorney General Gonzales?

"MS. PERINO: I think -- yes. I think the President has full confidence in the Attorney General and whenever that changes for any public servant, we'll let you know, and I see no indication of that."

Gonzales Admits Mistakes
In a testy hearing Thursday morning, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales defended his decision to fire eight prosecutors in 2006, but said the process was “nowhere near as rigorous or as structured as it should have been.”
...he continued to lay much of the blame for the flawed process at the feet of his former chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, describing his own role in arriving at the firing decisions as “limited.” “I accepted the decisions made by staff. To my knowledge, I did not make decisions about who should or should not be asked to resign,” Gonzales testified.
...
“I made the decision,” he said.

Liberally using words like “I don’t recall,” Gonzales appeared to stymie Senators when he said he did not remember attending a crucial Nov. 27 meeting attended by the key players in which a memo was distributed outlining the plan to fire the attorneys. Seven of the attorneys were notified of their dismissals on Dec. 7, 2006.

“I have searched my memory. I have no recollection of the meeting,” Gonzales said.
...

Give it up, Alberto.
You're a liar out of your limited league.

Bubble Boy's take is to profess his full confidence and full support in his Fredo, one of many who helped him cover up and hide his past. He had "full support" for Rummy too.

Impeach Cheney!

Kucinich is ready to file Articles of Impeachment on Cheney.

April 17, 2007

Dear Colleague:

This week I intend to introduce Articles of Impeachment with respect to the conduct of Vice President Cheney. Please have your staff contact my office . . . if you would like to receive a confidential copy of the document prior to its introduction in the House.

Sincerely,
Dennis J. Kucinich
Member of Congress

They'd better hurry before he gets us into another war. Cheney is a cruel lying psychopath. So's Lieboy, but Dick is even uglier inside. They're itching to attack Iran, just dying to have a reason. Blunder after blunder while they rob us blind.
U.S. won't release 5 Iranians held in Iraq
Washington says the five, seized in a January 11 raid by U.S. forces in the Kurdish city of Arbil, are linked with Iranian Revolutionary Guard networks involved in providing explosive devices used to attack U.S. troops in Iraq. Iran says they are diplomats and has demanded their release.

The Post said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had wanted to free the men because she judged them no longer useful but went along with the decision to retain them in custody that was strongly supported by Vice President Dick Cheney.

Even Condi thinks they're "no longer useful". Perhaps Cheney feels they'll "break" by July...a little torture to loosen their tongues, waterboarding, Dick has no problem with that. Iran let the Brits go. Dick sees that as weakness...to be exploited and crushed.

Gonzo's Lies Await

"I have nothing to hide"-Fredo Gonzales
Last week, the White House acknowledged it could not locate four years' worth of e-mails from Rove that may relate to the firings. Since then, it agreed to the Senate panel's request to hire an outside computer forensics expert to help recover some of the lost e-mails.
...

Leahy Doubts Bush Aides on Lost E-Mails
"I understand his point, but he's wrong," spokeswoman Dana Perino said of Leahy.

"We're being very honest and forthcoming," she added. "I hope that he would understand the spirit in which we have come forward and tried to explain how we screwed up our policy and how we're working to fix it."

Press Secretary Nose

WITHOUT A TRACE: The Missing White House Emails and the Violations of the Presidential Records Act, detailing the legal issues behind the story of the White House e-mail scandal.

Officials' e-mails may be missing from the documents last dumped by the White House.

Attorneys assessed long before firings
the administration prized attorneys who shared its Republican ideology. For instance, the personnel charts of some prosecutors note their membership in the conservative Federalist Society.
...
"The list," he said, "reflects Kyle Sampson's initial thoughts, not pre-selected candidates by the administration."

House Subpoenas JD

But his prepared remarks conflict with some details already released by the Justice Department and former aides. They include:

_Gonzales' statement that he became aware of the process to replace U.S. attorneys "shortly after the 2004 election and soon after I became attorney general." However, a Jan. 9, 2005, e-mail notes a discussion of the topic "a couple of weeks ago" between Gonzales and his former top aide, Kyle Sampson. Gonzales was confirmed as attorney general on Feb. 3, 2005.

_Gonzales' recollection that he received a few, brief updates about the firing plans. "During those updates, to my knowledge, I did not make decisions about who should or should not be asked to resign," he wrote. Sampson, by contrast, told the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 29 that he remembered discussions with Gonzales regarding "this process of asking certain U.S. attorneys to resign."

_Gonzales' claim that he was not involved in selecting who would replace the targeted prosecutors. "I do not recall making any decision, either on or before December 7, 2006, about who should replace the U.S. attorneys who were asked to resign that day," he wrote. But the Justice documents include a January 2006 list of names compiled by Sampson of possible replacements. Justice spokesman Brian Roehrkasse has said those suggested replacements were merely proposals, and that none was selected before the prosecutors were told to resign.

_Gonzales' written statement maintaining he had only an indirect role in the firings but approved the final recommendations "near the end of the process." On March 13, however, Gonzales said he "was not involved in seeing any memos, was not involved in any discussions about what was going on." That was contradicted by e-mails showing he attended a Nov. 27, 2006, meeting about the dismissals.

Moreover, the former Justice official tasked with overseeing the prosecutors told congressional investigators that a memo about the firings was released at the Nov. 27 meeting, according to Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. That official, Michael Battle, also said he "was not aware of performance problems with respect to several of the U.S. attorneys" when he called to fire them, according to Schumer.

Perino on Domenici Call: "I Haven't Asked"
"I think the attorney general has been perfectly honest," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Monday.
